5/4 No gi recap - underhook to inside trip

Building once again of our shallow underhook series we looked this time at the inside trip. We can hit this technique of either side, but my preference is toward the underhook.  We pull in the hook circling our opponent but leaving the leg we want to trip with behind to time our entry. Insert the tripping leg but to stay safe,  don't bare any weight on it until the knee hits the ground. In order to finish the top it is essential we hang out head out over the tripping leg. This is not a comfortable position and people avoid it but it is mandatory. The underhook drops down to our leg to trap theirs.

Here is Kolat with a long form breakdown.

Sometimes it doesn't go as planned and we need a plan B. If they step out on us, I like to try to hit the reshot right away. Our off leg penetrates and the tripping leg steps up. Remember to stack your hips beneath your shoulders to cancel the sprawl.
