These curriculums are a basic skeleton for what I look for when evaluating a grappler. They are not the complete picture, there are many other factors at play in deciding when a person is ready for promotion, but they are a good place to start. I cannot guarantee that if you know every technique on the beginner list that I will give you a Blue belt, but I can guarantee that if you don't know them, I won't. As you advance further in grappling these criteria become more and more ephemeral. It is much harder to tell a high level purple belt from a brown belt than it is to tell a white from a blue. What's more, as you advance we make more room for personal preference and style. As a result I plan on finishing up the Purple to Brown list soon, but not creating a Brown to Black. That is something you should do on your own once you are ready. By the time you are working toward your black belt you should be writing your own theory of grappling. What is your personal Jiu Jitsu philosophy? By giving a black belt we are essentially saying you are our equal in talent and knowledge, it is no longer our place to tell you what is right or wrong. It is time for you to tell us what is right for you.
