A lot of this class was spent going over the difference between the shallow underhook and the deep or seatbelt underhook. The main points were that the deep underhook gains the ability to pick the opponent up with both our hip pop and hip bump, but loses the ability to snap down. It also has a harder time dealing with pressure from the overhook. This move, the cut back, is one way of dealing with that overhook pressure. We need the near leg to be blocking the path to the far side knee tap but as a result giving us access to the back of the near side knee.
