Known in English as the fireman's carry, in Japanese as Kata Guruma, and in Russian as Mel'nitsa, this is one of the most versatile take downs in the book. Typically, it is performed by grabbing the leg, but it can be modified to be an arm only throw making it useful across almost all wrestling disciplines. The following versions would be useful in both Greco-roman and modern Judo which prohibit the use of hands to legs. That said the collared version is one of the most attempted throws in Sambo as well.
We drilled this in class using the both the drop knee and straight leg versions of the footwork. Both have benefits and disadvantages. In the end, pic the one that gets you lowest, fastest.
