We have been looking at the Georgian grip a lot lately in the gi class but for this no gi class we looked at a classic duck under to pick up. Specifically, the lateral revolution or Te Guruma. Not the most complicated of throws but not without subtleties either. The key is to pick Uki up by popping the hips in hard to swing their legs away before lifting their legs with the corresponding grip leaving them belly down in the air. As they fall we pull the shoulder grip causing them to rotate laterally in the air. Thus we guide them to the ground onto their back and not onto their elbows and knees. Next week we will combine the recent lessons and look at the lateral revolution as a counter to the Georgian grip.
